= Proposed location

The "Canyon Creek Phenology Lab and Nursery" would provide the community with a valuable resource for the educational and institutional teachings of horticulture. It would be an outlet for further studies in conservation, propagation, technical support and phenology. Educationally it would serve local schools, home schools, tribal lands and ZooMontana visitors as it would be open to the public. Community-wise it would serve as a source for unique species of trees that would be produced for distribution in the city for observation and research and future species growth. For the arboretum it would serve as a new source for rare tree and shrub propagation to be planted within the arboretum itself. For ZooMontana the facility could serve as a source for growing supplemental herbs, small plants and Bamboo for the animal residents.

The lab would house the recently started herbarium collection and a small horticultural library for use by gardeners and Zoo staff. It would also serve as a hub for botanical volunteers to work on propagation and collection of seeds and seedlings. Collaboration would be established with statewide nurseries, DNRC seedling nursery, tribal organizations and school districts. This endeavor would further enhance relationships with arboretums and botanical gardens throughout the country.

Most importantly, this type of facility would greatly aid in the establishment of much needed canopy within the communities listed above in an effort to comabt climate change and create new greenspace for future generations.
